Sexual harassment is any unwanted sexual behaviour that makes someone feel upset, scared, offended or humiliated, or is meant to make them feel that way. Sexual harassment includes a range of actions from verbal transgressions to sexual abuse or assault.
According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), there are two types of sexual harassment claims: "quid pro quo" and "hostile work environment."
Quid pro quo means "this for that. IT involves expressed or implied demands for sexual favors in exchange for some benefit or to avoid some detriment in the workplace.
Hostile work environment harassment arises when speech or conduct is so severe and pervasive it that creates an intimidating or demeaning environment or situation that negatively affects a person's job performance.
In 2016, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) estimated 60 percent of women experienced unwanted sexual attention in the workplace, ranging from comments to coercion, from both men and women. Men also are victims.
